Born Sophia Gi in 1953, Sophie lived in southeast Asia for most of her mortal life. The product of a mixed marriage, she was always a loner and preferred staying at home rather than being in the company of peers. Eager to be overlooked, she dressed discreetly and would come straight home from school. Her father worried that she would forever be an introvert and enrolled her in Kung Fu when she was seven. To his surprise, she took to the art immediately and opened up to her classmates somewhat.

After her mother died in 1965, her father took her to Europe. She continued to study Kung Fu, though training was nearly impossible to find in Europe at that time. Sophie and her father lived in France for a handful of years before moving to Spain and then Portugal. Still a bit of an introvert, Sophie hadn't made real friends until settling in Portugal. There, she became popular with a night crowd that hung out in local pubs. They referred to her as "Little Tiger" due to her fighting skills. One of the young men in the crowd insisted on taking her to visit a friend of his. The one they were to visit turned out to be a Queen. The Queen invited Sophie into the Sard-Vashti clan and she accepted because she finally felt accepted by someone other than a parent. The young man from the night crowd embraced her, and she has been living with the Queen's assistant ever since. The assistant, Britannia Estaban, lived with many of the younger vampires and made sure they learned and practiced skills to survive and took advantage of their natural abilities, as well as becoming the best at whatever ability they had. In Sophie's case, this was her fighting style of the Tiger, which took on a whole new meaning when she became a vampire and inherited the disciplines protean and animalism. Some say Sophie and Britannia have a romantic relationship, but it has only been implied and never witnessed.
