Shane used to be a famous dancer but dropped out of the spotlight to avoid mortal curiousity of his stamina and seemingly ageless body. He now performs in smaller ballet companies, staying with each for several years and then retiring and moving on to another.

He was embraced in 1829. Though English, Shane prefers warmer climates and has lived in South America for over a century. He frequently visits the US to see his progeny, Threnody Voltaire. His devotion to her contradicts his free spirit, but he says that she is his only love and no one has argued that--not even Mr. Seducer, who ceaselessly hounds Shane for attention.
