In 910 AD, a young Vashti vampire encountered Ansalon, a direct descendent of Lilith. This vampire is Sardius.

At the time, Sardius was only 202 years old, but he had gained much attention in the Vashti populous due to his increasing lust for power. He had proven genuine interest in bettering his people by gaining the abilities of other vampire breeds and spreading them among his own. Numerous elder Vashti considered him a noble philanthropist who revolutionized their breed; though Sardius insists that he was only interested in progressing himself, rather than the clan. He staunchly refused invitations to join the elders' council and instead sought out the unfolding of his kind's genesis. It was this journey that brought him to Ansalon.

Ansalon had settled in a wooded area of what would now be called southern Wales. (if you would like to see more info on Ansalon, check back for his own story in the near future) This elf-like creature was soon won over by Sardius' charm and offered Sardius residense. The curious vampire accepted, hoping to gain all knowledge the ancient recalled of the past. It wasn't long before Sardius dominated Ansalon and nearly killed him for his unique blood. Rumors spread that Ansalon died later that century, but some believe that he is still alive somewhere in Europe.

Ansalon's blood transformed Sardius into a completely different vampire, making him the first to ever have control over plantlife. This skill, named Foliaceus, allows one to manipulate plants on a cellular level and tap into their bio energy, as well as summon them and take on their appearance. Because Ansalon has never been found, no one knows for sure if he has the same skill or something similar. The Vashti council speculates that the skill originated from the combination of Sardius' blood with the descendent of Lilith's.

With the council's increasing interest in him, Sardius once again fled from their reach... And this was the beginning of the Sard-Vashti clan.

Though still adored among most of the Vashti population, the council ordered his capture on sight; however, due to the Vashti's peaceful and passive nature, Sardius was never brought before the council and the subject of his newly gained abilities was lost to the history books and legend.

In his Vashti days, Sardius had no progeny. Elder's have paraphrased him as to saying, "I was not worthy enough to bring someone into this world at that time," although he had more abilities than anyone of his age and descent. In time, he grew restless and began selecting mortals to receive his gift. His main choice in progeny followed that of the Vashti, requiring beauty and/or androgyny; however, he extended his gift to mortals with unusually refined talents in art, business, theater, magic, and science. He set forth a law on his kind that the same attributes must be found in future generations. To support this law, Sardius insisted on examining all potential progeny. As the clan grew, calling themselves Sards, the task became nearly impossible for Sardius to handle. He assigned "Queens" to the most heavily Sard popluated cities to regulate "embraces" and negotiate with neighboring breeds, requesting that each Queen notify him of every proceeding.

With the new clan spreading across Europe, Asia, and Africa, the Sards and the Vashti inevitably existed in the same social circles and took after Sardius in his youth--exchanging their skills between each other. This friendly relationship lead to the Sard clan renaming themselves the Sard-Vashti.
